In this blog post, Marc Accetta explores more ways on how managers can positively connect to the rest of their teams.

Lend a helping hand. It’s a huge deal for many employees, especially new ones if they know a manager has their back. Assuring the team of assistance when needed is a huge confidence booster. However, Marc Accetta cautions managers to be mindful with the amount of help they can offer. Sometimes, offering too much may cause dependency, which is counterproductive.

Choose good words. When conversing with subordinates, what a manager says is as important as anything else. They must remember that not everyone thinks like they do, and what may be harmless to them might be offensive to people. Managers should practice using positive words, even when providing feedback.

Learn about interests. When a manager moves around an office, sometimes, it’s easy to see what their subordinates love to do during their personal time. Whether it’s going to the gym, hiking, reading books, watching films, knowing all of this allows for a more personal connection between a manager and his subordinates. More importantly, it shows the team that their leader genuinely cares enough to learn about what everyone likes.
